Welcome to Troop 15/1015!
We’re excited you’re here! Whether you’re crossing over from a Cub Pack, new to Scouting, or just curious, you are welcome in our troop. Scouting is about friendship, adventure, and discovering what you can achieve outdoors and in life.

A Long Tradition in the Ross Valley
Troop 15 is the oldest continuously active Scout troop in Marin Council, founded in 1924. We’ve met at the historic American Legion Log Cabin in San Anselmo since it was built for Scouts in 1934. Nearly a century later, our Scouts still gather there to learn, plan adventures, and carry on the tradition of youth-led Scouting.

Meetings & Activities
We meet Wednesday evenings (7:00–8:30 PM) at the Log Cabin. Second and fourth Wednesdays of the month the meetings are Scout-led, hands-on, and include learning skills, and always making time for games. The third Wednesday is our planning meeting, usually patrol leaders and interested Scouts. There is no meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.

Each month we head outdoors—hiking, camping, and practicing new skills. Each year we take on bigger adventures, from Camp Marin Sierra and Tamarancho to extended trips across the country (and beyond).

Adventures Near & Far
Recent outings have taken us to Moaning Caverns, Castle Rock, Point Reyes National Seashore, and the hidden waterfalls of Mount Tamalpais. We’ve also trekked to Alaska’s mountains and glaciers, paddled and snorkeled in Baja California Sur, and even exchanged visits with Scouts in Scotland. Big trips are part of our story—and more are always on the horizon.

Fundraising & Support
Our troop runs one major annual fundraiser that covers much of what we do. For bigger trips, Scouts take on extra efforts—CSA boxes, selling seasonal goodies at Fairfax Lumber, and more. This keeps costs manageable and teaches the value of teamwork.

We also provide financial aid and shared gear when needed. If Scouting is right for your family, we’ll help make it work.

Advancement & Leadership
Advancement is central to the Scouting journey. Scouts in our troop work at their own pace toward ranks and merit badges, with many earning the Eagle Scout Award. Just as important, our Scouts learn leadership by running meetings, planning outings, and guiding their patrols.

Service to the Community
Giving back is part of who we are. Troop 15 has supported local organizations such as the Salvation Army’s Toys for Tots, the Fairfax–San Anselmo Children’s Center, and the American Legion. Service builds pride, empathy, and connection.

Parents & Families
Scouting is youth-led, but adult support is essential. Parents and community members serve on our troop committee, help with trips, and mentor Scouts. Some leaders have supported the troop for decades, keeping our traditions alive while helping today’s Scouts thrive.

Summer Camp: The Best First Step
We encourage every new Scout to attend summer camp their first year. Our experience shows that Scouts who go to camp are more likely to:
-
Stay in Scouting after the first year
-
Advance more quickly
-
Build lasting friendships
-
Grow into troop leaders
-
Develop confidence and independence

Camp is a safe, structured way for Scouts to try new things, learn skills, and begin their journey surrounded by supportive peers and trained leaders.

Finally, there's our New Scout and Parent Handbook which we'll be updating shortly - watch this space!
